101 Things

My parents bought a house in Florida well over a year ago. I have been saving the Florida vacation for the time when mere existence in Seattle becomes an unbearable trial. That time is February. Five days in Florida visiting my parents along with my brother, here we go!

My brother is a fun person who likes the same fun I do and when we get together in the same place we have a pretty good time of it.



My mom is also a fun person deep down inside, but sometimes we have to coax the fun out of her by demonstrating how to have fun first.



My mom will straight up kick your ass at air hockey, though.



I look worried because I will straight up kick everyone’s ass at Bananagrams.



Wait wait wait are we doing one-two-three-jump or are we jumping on three?



Years ago, when I was home for a friend’s wedding, I broke down in incoherent sobs when my stepdad asked me how grad school was going. He sat me down in the living room and gently told me that he and my mother would love me even if I was selling popcorn balls at the circus, which is exactly the thing I needed to hear right then. And I have never once questioned that — I am loved and I am supported, no matter what, and I know how lucky I am to be able to say so.
